Rare finds in WNC brighten winter for birders

Birdwatchers can be a strange breed. While many of us are content with filling our bird feeders and watching whatever comes in to eat, there are others of us that comb the fields and woodlands searching for the rarest of the rare.

This latter quest does not have to be globally rare, although that helps, but finding a local rarity is always literally a “feather in ones cap.”
