Another Spin: Confessions of a backyard birder by Debbie Spingarn/Wicked Local Norwood Columnist

I’ve been feeding the birds all winter using several bird feeders I hang on a red maple in my front yard. Particularly beautiful are the red cardinals and large blue jays, and simply entertaining are the many tiny chickadees (our state bird) that flit here and there in a cute and comical fashion.

On the radio, I heard about the Great Backyard Bird Count sponsored by the National Audubon Society and Cornell’s Ornithology Lab where backyard-bird watchers and other people without experience try to count and identify birds in the back (or front) yard feeders.
