Feathered friends find a fan in North Oaks

The “Bird Lady of North Oaks”, as some affectionately call Patty, keeps a dozen feeders outside her back door, attracting a variety of feathered friends.

Her recommendation for avian aficionados who have but one feeder? “Black sunflower seeds,” she said. “Most birds will eat them.”

But Patty doesn’t stop there. She has a suet feeder; bird feeders for safflower, thistle and sunflower chips (without the shell), and even one for dog food.

Yes, dog food. Patty said bluejays in particular like the Iams brand for toy dogs, the smallest nugget available.
